The Donation of Props
Props and set dressing are all of the things you see on stage that help you know where you are in time and place. They are a very big part of the storytelling and often help the narration and acting flow without having the say, We are now in a typical office in 1930.
Burien Little Theatre is always on the lookout for possible props. As you rummage around in your attic or settle an Estate, please think of us. If you have a donation you would like to make to us, here are a few simple guidelines:
The best props are ones that are representative of a time. For example, we have 5 typewriters. They range from an old manual typewriter circa a 1940s newsroom to an IBM Selectric circa a 1970s office. Each one represents its time. When you see it, you know what era you are in.
Unless we are looking for a particular prop for a specific show, we want representative items: a Nehru jacket, vintage patterns (always worth having), flat sided glass milk bottles, steamer trunks, a few place settings of fine china, a stylish floor lamp, a hoop skirt, a gilded picture frame, a 1910s telephone, and the like. The older the item, the more likely we would want it, as older items are harder to find when we need them.
Having said that, we are not a substitute for the junkyard, and we are harder to please than some charity drop-off sites. We have very limited storage space, that we rent. So, we cannot accept every item, and although it only has to look good from 30 feet away, we do not have the ability to make anything more than minor cosmetic repairs.
If we have not scared you away, and you have anything you would like to donate to us, please:
